i am an artist currently residing in my home town of Oakland, California.  i work in mixed media, primarily painting and illustration, compelled to make art as a means of communication; an expression beyond written and spoken word.

i am interested in making images that cannot immediately evoke a definition with words, but rather an emotional understanding.  i actively explore a way to create a visual dialog that suggests emotional experience.

i like to challenge the usual assumptions of communication: i am interested in what's not being said.  i have worked with Autistic preschoolers for the last four years. i am fascinated by these emotional beings who don't have any words to describe what they are feeling. i worked at a school for the deaf and learned sign language with the children. i traveled to Guatemala and got to know a family without knowing their language. even where there is no language i have found there are ways to communicate through the similarities of human experience.

i attempt to communicate my thoughts, my experiments, my understanding, and my experiences through abstraction. i am particularly inspired by Rothko, the emotional qualities provoked through color combinations and simplified forms. like collecting pebbles as mementos of my external travels, i tell my stories in the abstraction of my life.
